About Skyzdalimit

Skyzdalimit is an inclusive performing arts and leisure charity for people with a learning disability or autism. The theatre/leisure group is based in Omagh and presently has a cast of 40 from diverse cultural backgrounds with an age range between 16-60 years.

Skyzdalimit has been leading the way in disability musical theatre in N.Ireland since its inception in 2010. The cast has performed to capacity audiences at the Strule Arts Centre, Omagh with professional productions of Grease, A Greek Wedding, Musical Extravaganza and Blues Family Horror Show, Love Me Love Me Not, a musical inspired by the High School Musical film trilogy “Happily Ever After”, a musical adapted from the Shrek film series and most recently, Prince of Africa, inspired by the Lion King.

In March 2020, Covid 19 put a stop to rehearsals for its next major production, Circus, inspired by The Greatest Showman, now planned for June 2022.

We aim to take our shows to theatres across the Island of Ireland and the UK to promote diversity and inspire other groups and people with a learning disability or autism to take to the stage to showcase their abilities.

Our Work

Skyzdalimit works in partnership with local secondary schools to promote inclusion, by delivering a programme of musical theatre activities to students with and without a disability. Classes are held weekly at participating schools with most of the programmes being funded. Our current partners are Loreto GS, Drumragh Integrated College and Arvalee School. Many participants progress to join Skyzdalimit when they leave school providing them with a smooth transition from school to adult life.

Skyzdalimit works in partnership with local charities and senior citizens’ groups by providing opportunities for therapeutic work to its members by using their skills at their day-centre or at home, to help create some of our costumes, masks, props for our shows, providing a therapeutic activity for several afternoons a month. The feel-good factor of doing something worthwhile for the benefit of the community will give an added mood-boost and sense of value. They will be able to see the result of their contribution live on stage!

Aims
